Top 5 most important golf fundamentals
Question
QUESTION: What do you think are the 5 most important parts of the golf swing in order 1 through 5 and why? Thanks, Jason
ANSWER: Jason:
#1: Grip: Without question. Your hands are the only part of you that touch the club. Your grip better be correct to allow everything to happen to square the face and use the club correctly.
#2: Alignment: Once you know how to fire the gun, you better know how to aim it.
#3: Ball Position: I call this a fundamental, some don't. Getting more consistent here brings about more consistency and repetition. The clubhead should be placed opposite your center, so the ball should be just forward of center as a rule. With a driver, due to the size of the head, the ball would be more towards the left heel. If you were hitting a knock down shot into the wind, the ball would be back of center. But to build consistency, start here.
#4: Posture: How you stand to the club and the ball.
#5: Stance: Least of the fundamentals that have an effect on what happens.

QUESTION: Thanks again Eddie, what grip do you use? Overlapping or interlocking? I have never been comfortable with it. When I started golf I was only 4'10" and started with interlocking and have stuck with it but maybe my hands are big enough to switch to overlapping. Have you tried both? Which do you believe is best for what players and why?
Answer
Jason:
Overlap. Interlocking I could not do. But that is not to say you couldn't. I've overlapped my whole career. It depends on the size of your hands, however, Tiger interlocks so it must not be that bad. I don't believe his hands are small, so it's just what's comfortable and what you get used to.
