Golf fitness program.
Question
QUESTION: Hi, I'm 35 years old and haven't played golf in a while but now I'm ready to get myself back in shape to enjoy the sport I love. My question is: How can I obtain the flexibility and strength that I need to play well?
I'm a bit over weight but I'm working on that through diet and exercise. I thought about buying some dvd's on golf fitness but I have no idea where to start. Can you Please help me.
Thanks
Josiah
ANSWER: Josiah,
You have the right idea getting back in the game in better shape. It sounds as if you are already in a workout program. Is this done at a gym or on your own? Fitness centers usually have a trainer that is an expert in golf training. You may check into this.
I belive the most important aspect of golf training is stretching. Shoulders, back, waist, neck and hamstrings are the areas that I would concentrate on the most.
Also after consulting a physician, start a cardiovascular program. It's not only good for golf but it's also good for everything else you do.
Get some of your golfing friends to join you in a program. It makes it fun for all involved.
Check out the Internet for some of the most popular golf fitness videos and give one a try.
Best of luck to you,

QUESTION: Thanks Michael for the encouragement! I have been working out at home and I really would like to continue on that road. I have a really busy schedule and I don't have time to get to a gym. I have been walking briskly for a quarter mile and then jogging for a quarter mile. I have been trying to work slowly into my workouts. I have been looking online for golf fitness videos but it is hard to tell which ones are real and which ones are just plain junk. If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.
Answer
Josiah,
Here is a web site to check out. There are some complimentary exercises and for $50 annually you can access a variety of different golf exercise videos. http://www.kellyblackburn.com/golf_fitness_training_game.html
This seems to be a good value.
Let me know how it goes.
Thanks for the follow up.
