Fitting
Question
Michael; first some history. A few years back I bought a new set of clubs, and
was fit for them at GolfTown. Last summer the wife & I drove to a Callaway
fitting center and had another fitting, she was getting new clubs and I got fit
out of curiosity. When I compared the two fittings they were quite different.
Last week I talked to a fitter who showed me how he fit and, being a novice I
was quite impressed. He talked about proper "spline alignment" to 12 0'clock.
and getting the shaft set properly using lasers to name a couple. None of this
was ever mentioned in the previous fittings. He said they always set their
shafts so the brand was visible, not worrying about balance. Is there anything
to this, if so how important is it?
Thank you in advance.
Answer
Blaine,
You have experienced two fittings with different fitters with different results. Not uncommon. A good fitter will allow the way you hit the ball determine the make up of the clubs that he/she ultimately suggests for you. It's a process of elimination, knowledge and common sense. This is why, just like choosing a doctor or dentist, you get referrals before you get fitted or take a lesson.
Your statement-
He said they always set their shafts so the brand was visible, not worrying about balance. Is there anything to this, if so how important is it?
I have never heard this before so I really cannot comment on it. Sorry.
