grip on golf club
Question
QUESTION: Hi !! I am a 14 handicap player and bought a 2008 callaway big bertha irons will this suit my handicap and improve my game? NB I play with a Pabwa grip is this a problem???
Please help!!!!
ANSWER: Hey Roger.
It's difficult to say that a particular club or brand of club will make a significant improvement on face value alone. Some of it will depend on what type of iron you were playing previously. If the callaway set has bigger heads, bigger sweet spots, and a lower center of gravity than what you've been playing then yes, most likely you'll see a dramatic difference in how easy they are to hit. At a 14 handicap you'll find that you wont notice much difference in your most solid hits. You might notice a slight increase in distance. Where you'll notice the most difference is in your mis hits. Your "bad shots" won't be quite so bad. You'll have to educate me on a Pabwa grip. Not sure what that is. Send me a follow up and I'll try to help with that part of your question.
The best thing to do is get out with the irons and start pounding balls. Until then, you won't know how much improvement you'll get.
Good luck,
John

QUESTION: Hi John
I play with regular right handed clubs, but my left hand is lower than my right hand with a normal inter locking grip.
Will I be able to improve my golf with such a grip style.
Thank you for your swift responce on my first Question
Answer
Hey Roger,
Thanks for the clarification. Years ago I was watching a former NFL player hit balls and noticed that he was hitting left hand low. I can't remember his name, but I remember trying to swing a few that way and not being able to do anything with it. I finally just came to the conclusion that the guy was able to muscle the ball out there because he was so big and strong.
(You're not him, are you?)
Keep this in mind...grip changes are typically not the easiest things to make. But in your case, I can't help but think that you would eventually hit the ball both straighter and longer if you were using a traditional right handed grip. You can switch on your own, but it would probably be easier to enlist the help of a PGA professional.
Good luck,
John
