Uniflex shafts on Callaways X-20 Irons
Question
My question is what is a uniflex shaft? I have been fitted and they say I need a stiff shaft. I want to buy Callaway X-20's but all I see is uniflex shafts.
thanks.
Answer
Hey Tom,
Man...I seriously hate those shafts. I personally think that they do work ok for a majority of golfers, but then again, the majority of golfers don't really need stiff shafts. If you've been fitted and someone who knows how to fit is telling you that you need a stiff shaft, then that's the way I would go.
I've just never been a fan of the uniflex stuff. To me it's always seemed like a way to streamline the manufacturing process, thus saving money. Maybe I'm wrong, but over the years I've taken a few swings with them and I'd definitely say that they feel and perform closer to the reguler end of the spectrum.
You can just about always custom order clubs however you want them, and I would bet you could order these heads with another shaft in them. You might pay a little more, and wait a few weeks to get them, but I'm betting that you'll be happier with an S flex shaft instead.
Good luck,
John
