Golf career
Question
Mr. Hoffman,
I am a 31 year old man who has been golfing for about 5 years now. I started shooting in the 100's but now I am in the 70's consistently. I am working towards a career as a golfer but i know I am not ready or qualified to attempt the PGA Tour. Is there an amateur circuit that I can play in to sharpen my skills and make a decent pay check as well, and if so how do i get to be a part of it?
Thank You,
Sam
Answer
Sam,
Let me address the decent paycheck part of your question first. If you accept money, you are considered a professional. Instead of looking for an amateur circuit, you need to focus on a professional circuit. You can surf the Internet and see what professional circuits are out there. Once you find a circuit to play, check out the membership cost, purse money etc.
I would suggest going to an event as a spectator to see the caliber of play that is exhibited. If you feel you can contend, then join the circuit and see how you do. Hopefully you have some amateur tournament experience under your belt. Playing under pressure is quite different than playing a casual round.
Best of luck to you.
