loft on the driver
Question
I have a 460cc 13.5 degree driver and i hit it about 240 250 on average. I have been told that that much loft can take away from my distance. Is this true and how much farther do you think i could hit the ball with a lower loft if it is true
Answer
Hi Joey,
Distance depends on clubhead speed as well as the effective loft of the club. The effective loft is determined by the actual loft of the face in combination with the location of the center of mass of the clubhead. If the center of mass of the clubhead is low, then the effective loft is higher.
Given that you already hit it about 245 with a 13.5 degree (quite a high loft for a medium to fast swinger) I'd expect there is probably some room for improvement. You need to get your clubhead speed tested.
I have developed an accurate computer golf ball projectile model. On my website, www.probablegolfinstruction.com , I provide a calculator (based on my model) that will predict distance based on clubhead speed.
You'll find it here:
http://probablegolfinstruction.com/fpp-v4.0-single/golf-club-form/club-calculato...
If you want to experiment with different lofts, you can purchase my spreadsheet algorithm. You'll find it on the same page where the calculator displays the results.
Hope this helps.
