Shaft Flex
Question
Hi Michael,
I have been looking into upgrading my 3-wood. My current one is the R7 Ti 3-wood with steel shaft (Stiff Flex). Now that graphite has pretty much taken over I am having a little trouble selecting between a stiff flex or an X-Flex shaft. Most stores do not carry the X-flex so I havent been able to Demo one, but the stiff flex has a bit more play in it compared to my current club. I'm looking to keep the control I have with my current 3 metal because I'm able to work the ball both ways with it. So I was hoping you could recommend the approriate flex.
Here are some of my swing details - It's a little quick and swing speed with the 3 wood is right around 105 MPH. Swing may be a bit more steep than usual - tend to swing it more like an iron. 240 - 250 yards
Thanks for all the help
Matt
Answer
Matt,
The first thing I would recommend is to ask the PGA Professional at your course to contact the Taylor representative and see if you can get the 3 wood in both flexes for you to demo. This is obviously the best way to know which would be best for you provided you can arrange this.
Based on your swing speed I would certainly recommend the stiff flex. It seems like the X-flex would be too stiff for you. Many years ago my swing speed was 111 mph and I never thought about an X-flex.
Hope this helps,
Michael
