Breaking 100
Question
QUESTION: Hi my name is jalyn i am 16 and i just stared playing since i was 14. I have not broke 100 yet and not yet broke 50 in nine holes. How often do you think i should play during the off season to break 100?
Thanks again.
ANSWER: Hi Jalyn:
Where do you live Jalyn? What is your off season? I don't know your level of commitment or your goals in golf, but as a 16 year old, if you are serious about breaking 100, you should practice 4-5 days per week and play at least 36 holes per week. Make sure you get quality golf instruction from a PGA Professional, it will make your learning curve time much shorter. Spend 70% of your practice time working on your short game (chipping, pitching, putting and sand play) and 30% of your time on your long game. You MUST work on your fundamentals (grip, posture, alignment, balance) until you are sick of them...because that is what works. Consistent practice and a good routine will help you break 100 in no time Jalyn.

QUESTION: I live in delaware. I play high school golf the off season would be june to march.
Answer
Hi Jalyn:
If your off season is June through March, then you have a long time to practice and play. I am assuming you cannot play from November through March due to weather. I would also make sure you are doing everything to get stronger and more flexible. At your age, it is important to be working out and getting stronger. Your driver will get longer and by staying flexible, you can grow into your golf swing as you get older. Good luck.
