getting less spin on a driver.
Question
I am using a g10 driver, and i am hitting it well, but i put too much spin on the ball. i was advised to use a 10.5 loft due to hitting the ball low. i was told i was putting too much spin on the ball. i have a 5 handicap, but get out driven by 30-40-yards. what can i do to get less spin on my driver. thank you
Answer
Hello Hector: The first thing I would do is to have someone check to see if the club is descending at impact. If so, move the ball up in your stance so that you catch the ball as the club begins its upward path. If that doesn't do the trick, select a ball that produces less spin. And if that doesn't work, take your club to an Edwin Watts or Golfsmith location and have them put you on the launch monitor to determine what the cause is. The many configurations possible with club face angle, composition, shaft make-up and ball selection make it very difficult to find what suits you by trial and error. And it's much too expensive to do it that way.
Good luck Hector,

John
