golf tees
Question
Just started golfing with woman friend. I'm 62 and shoot between 74-86 and golf 4 times a year. She was aghast that I used the white tee and not the blues. In my 50 years of golf most guys I golf with have used the whites. She said I'm the only man she's ever golfed with that didn't use the blue tees and that I'm a wimp. I said that considering all courses, municipal, private, etc. that the majority of men use the whites. She said I'm crazy. I may be but who's correct? Thanks much for helping me out here.

Answer
Hello Mike:
You both are correct, but she is a little too forward with her preconceived notions that "men" should play the blue tees. The fact is we all (regardless of male or female) should play the set of tees that our ability can handle best. Golf is a game to be enjoyed. If you were to go back to the Blue tees or whatever and you cannot hit the ball far enough or well enough to reach all the par 4's for example in 2 shots, then what fun is that? At the same time, maybe she should come back a set of tees and join you on the White tees. Then she might not have as much fun as playing from the Red tees or Forward tees. Maybe then she might appreciate the fact we all should play the tees that suit our skill level, regardless of gender. For realistic purposes and for the sake of speed of play, the color of tees you play mean nothing, it's the challenge of the course versus the enjoyment of playing the game. Hope you find common ground in your golfing relationship.
