outdoor putting green turf
Question
Hello - there seems to be quite a few synthetic putting green turf companies around on the internet. Do you have a website or a recommendation of which is the best quality(8-10yr warranty), yet most cost effective for the DIY'er? Specifically I'm looking for one that can be filled so the speed can be adjusted & will hold pitch shots(seems to be usually 3/4 to inch thick turf). Thanks a ton!
Answer
Kyle,
Nothing wrong with the DIYer in each of us. I have some good news and some bad news.
Most greens come out of Georgia or the Carolina's and most are made in the same way. The warranty is the tell for the quality of the green. The longer cut greens are terrible in my opinion. The types that required sand for speed adjustments were my choice for my backyard.. The bad news is that I have yet to see a synthetic green actually take a pitch shot from outside the edge of the green.
There is supposedly a green that can hold a pitch shot, it used shredded car tires much like the astro turf fields in baseball fields. Unfortunately, the company only installs the green itself.
I have a very large putting at my range that I am happy with. The company is Puttersedge. They can install and on some occasions send you the stuff to install. It will hold, a green side chip and that's about it. it does not require sand and comes in two stimps speeds. It wears well and I recommend it.
