Shafts
Question
I'm looking for a quality replacement shaft for my driver. I had a Accuflex Extreme long 47" in my 12 degree driver. My swing speed is 96-98 MPH with the driver. Average distance was 244 yards.
Answer
James, shaft fitting is more of a question of how you swing than it is how fast you swing. The shaft is like the engine in the car, it is what drives the ball. It is very important, so much so, especially in your driver, that I would not leave it up to an opinion. I would highly recommend you go to a local golf club fitter or professional that offered a launch monitor fitting for you on your driver. I don't assume you are in the Nashville TN area. If you were, you could come down to the Impact Zone Golf Academy in Mt. Juliet where I teach and we could do that for you. It should run between $50-100 for the service, but often the club maker will apply a good percentage of that to the purchase of a new shaft.
I have been a distributor of Accuflex shafts and I know they make a high quality product but with the varying degrees of torque, flex profiles, weight and length, contributing to launch conditions you really need to get fit on a launch monitor. It typically adds 15 or more yard to your drive.
If you want the quick answer, you can upload a driver swing video of yours at http://www.youtube.com/progolftool for analysis and I'll give you an opinion, but nothing can compare to a proper launch monitor fitting
