Role of back foot during down swing
Question
Sir, I have following to ask--
1 Do I use my back foot during downswing by "pushing" the ground and thus shift my weight to front foot.
2 If so..will it not alter the swing path by an inch or so-due to my body getting raised by pushing action of my right heel-resulting in straightening of right leg and thus shortening my club head from golfball by an inch or so?
Answer
Hi there and thank you for asking. I understand EXACTLY what you are saying, and I will definitely answer your actual question, but first let me tell you... your question shows that you are getting WAY too technical with the golf swing. I am like that too, so I know. I am NOT telling you not to try to understand everything, because then I would be a hypocrite... HOWEVER, make sure your FIRST priority is to make an ATHLETIC swing, not just a "perfect golf swing."
That having been said, yes of course your swing path will change... EVERYONE's swing path changes, even a robot arm. When objects are in movement, it is impossible by the laws of physics to hold your center of mass constant when all types of forces are pulling all over the place.
The key here is not to move your center of mass outside of your right foot on the back swing, and outside your left foot on the forward swing, ie, simply think of keeping your body between your two feet at all times. Why do you think Nicklaus supports that drill swinging while holding a ball with your knees throughout the whole swing?
