Teaching someone.
Question
Ok, my uncle's been asking for lessons for a long time now, and he even asked me to teach him for money like two years ago, when I was only like 12 :P. Anyways, his birthday is here and he wants to get four lessons from me. I have an idea of what to teach...
I'll probably start with teaching him how to stand next to the ball, with position etc. Afterwards, I'll have him do a sort of chipping swing/half swing, and just get him into the motion of simply having the shoulders move the club halfway up and having the body and arms connected. Other than that, I'm not sure what to do... could you give me some tips! (drills, what to teach afterwards?) Thanks!
Answer
Hi Jeff:
The best advice I can give to both of you is for your uncle to go see a qualified PGA Professional in your area who has a good reputation for teaching. I would not recommend you try to teach him. If you want your uncle to keep playing for a long time and be able to come play with you and enjoy it, get him started right. Nothing against you Jeff, I am sure you are a great guy, but unless you are a PGA Professional who is trained to teach, leave it to the ones who are. It would be useless for me to try to explain to you how to teach, what to teach, what to look for, what happens if, etc, etc. Sorry if I haven't answered your question appropriately, but as a PGA Professional, I have seen too many disasters. Good luck and have fun whatever you choose to do.
