sliding
Question
I have a bad problem sliding off the ball going back and then sliding through. Please help. Thanks
Ken
Answer
Ken: I am going to guess your spine is pretty close to vertical with very little bend at the hips. This position makes it difficult to make a turn so you sway to make the back swing. The sway back necessitates the sway forward to get back to the ball. I would also say that the club doesn't move too far away from the ball before your lead shoulder hits your chin.
You need to adjust your address position to enable a turn that allows your shoulders to turn under your chin, avoiding the need to sway. If you look at the people who make their livings playing this game (from a view from behind the player on the target line), you'll notice they have several points in common. To put yourself in this "professional setup position", do the following in order:
1. With the knees locked, bend from the hips so that the shoulders are over the toes.
2. Flexes the knees only to the point of relaxing them.
3. Play the ball far enough away to allow the arms to hang fairly straight down from the shoulders.
4. Position the weight on the balls of the feet.
It may take a while to begin turning without the sway but not too long as this position makes the proper turn and weight transfer much easier to do.
Good luck Ken. If you'd like to keep me up to date on your progress, I'd like to hear.
