handicapped event from multiple tees
Question
In a handicapped match between 2 players who are using different tees, the handicap manual (9-3c)states that the higher handicap player should receive the difference between the ratings of the tees in addition to the difference between their handicaps.
Why would this be considering that their course handicaps already take into account the slope rating of the different sets of tees? It seems the higher handicapper is receiving too many strokes since the difference in tees is factored in twice...
Answer
Hi Dave,
Good question. The higher handicapper is not receiving too many strokes.
A player抯 Course Handicap is based on the number of strokes needed to compete with other golfers from that specific set of tees. A Course Handicap is determined purely from the Slope Rating?of the set of tees being played. Because each set of tees has a different Course Rating, this difference needs to be accounted for when players are competing against each other from different tees.
The course handicap is based on playing a course with slope of 113. Subtracting the your course handicap from your score should even the playing field with a scratch golfer.
