Finally hitting irons (this includes the 6 and 7)
Question
First, the shankitis that I had over a year ago is just about non-existant with the wedges (mainly due to using a more compact backswing). I've beem carrying a driver, 5 wood, 3 hybrids (currently Orlimar 5 iron, Pinemeadow 35 deg and Snake Eyes 38 because these hit the best), PW, SW, 60, 64 deg wedges since last Jan. I've been slowly working the 8 and 9 irons in. Also, as added dimension, I have a 50 deg Cleveland CG10 and 58 deg CG15 (with zip grooves).
I have been practicing a bit with the 7 iron and have been starting to get consistent with it. I also constructed another 6 iron yesterday (this time with a True Temper Lite XL and that made a huge difference in feel vs the Dynamic Gold) and I got the hang of hitting it pretty quickly. I was finally able to get out over the holidays and play a standard par 72 course (Miramar) with nice greens (a 64 deg wedge is basically of no value on this course because, even though the greens are fast, they bite). I found out the short game at Miramar is a totally different animal vs National City Exec.
Regardless of where I play, I keep the 38 deg hybrid in the bag (gotta have a rescue club). If I play at NC, I use the 35 deg hybrid and the 64 deg wedge. If I play at Miramar I use the 6 and 7 irons. This is a "Mad Magazine 'Don't you hate it just when..." situation because I like both the 6 and 7 irons AND the 35 degree hybrid.
Answer
I know this didn't come from Mad Mag but this is also true in golf; "Just when you think you've got it......................." Thanks for the update. I'm in the Orlando area and recall hearing of a Miramar somewhere in Florida, southeast coast I think. Is that where you are?
