inconsistency
Question
Okay, here goes, I am a 15 handicapper, and I can not get this any lower because I lack consistency. I feel the reason for this is that I can never get my driver swinging mentality in sync with my iron swinging mentality on the same day!! That is to say that on any given day I'll be on fire with my driver but just can not seem to swing my irons and vice versa. And don't get me started on my putter. I've had a lesson and I have had my swing looked at and everyone says the same thing. "Your posture is good, your tempo is great, let me see your grip....okay, that looks good you should be striking the ball 8 out of ten times." So are there any drills or advice for someone like me who can't get his iron and driver swings in sync?
Answer
Hi there and thank you for asking. Here are some keys and drills to consistency... hopefully there are some things here that you have not heard yet:
1. Practice time... if you want to be around single digit, you have to, at some point, dedicate about 20-30 hours a week for about a month in practice (not playing)... you cannot get to single by simply playing twice a week.
2. Practice specialty shots... includes hooks, slices, draws, fades, flop shots, stingers, etc... even if you cant execute them all the time, it helps you learn how and what it takes to execute such shots... of you are talented enough, some will happen, which bring us to the next point...
3. Talent... Yes Hogan said anyone should be able to break 80... I disagree. Golf is not such a sport where breaking 80 is up there for anyone in this day and age... in his era maybe, where they had no HDTV, electronics, hundreds of different types of entertainment... he sometimes spent 100 hours a week practicing... I dont think that is realistic to expect out of modern people.
4. Equipment... are your clubs fitted for you in length, lie shaft and grip?
5. Stats... are you SURE it is your iron/driver game that is holding you back? Take stats... fairways/greens hit, putts per green hit, putts per round, up and downs, sand save %, etc... then let the numbers tell you what you need to do... sometimes feel is NOT the way to structure your needs.
That should help you get started.... If you need more help and advice after reading the FAQs,
