Question

to the ground it pointing at the targit line not behind me
Answer
Hi Brett:
Pretty simple here. Check a couple of things. First, let's talk about the position of the driver at the top of backswing. You say it points at your target line. If that's true, then it is crossing the line at the top and actually points to the right of the target. Then, it usually comes down too much from the inside causing the ball to be hit with right to left spin. So you could start the ball out pretty straight, then the hook spin would move it left. So the correct "on plane" position of the club should be parallel to the target line (if the shaft is parallel to the ground at the top). Then you wouldn't have to make any adjustments and you would reduce the side spin on the ball, thus hitting it straighter. Usually you are looking at the path the club approaches the ball on to determine where it starts out and then you are looking at the clubface to determine the spin it puts on the ball. So, if your ball is starting out at your target, then you are pretty much swinging towards the target, and if the ball spins to the left from there, you must be closing the face through impact, which would put right to left spin on the ball. So check the position of the shaft at the top and make sure you are not rotating the clubface with your hands too much through impact. Good luck.
