type of putter
Question
Is there a rule on types of putters? I made a putter that I use like a croquet style mallet. I put from between my legs. This helps me line up the ball and stay in line. I have a hard time keeping the line when I line the ball up in a straight line then put from the traditional side stance.
Thanks
Answer
Gary,
There are many rules on the type of putters (and specs on clubs) in Appendix ll in the USGA Rules of golf. There are way too many to list here but an interesting one is that the shaft cannot have a lie angle of more than 80 degrees.
It is against the rules to straddle the putting line. Both feet have to be on one side of the line and neither foot can touch an extension of the line.
Hope this helps.
Thank you,
Michael
