playing professionally
Question
I am 39 years old and a decent player. I realize I have 10 years before q-school for the sr. tour and although that's a long term goal, it might be more of a dream. I want to play professionally to prepare myself for q-school but I have 2 small children and a full-time job so practice time is limited to 1 hr in the early am (doing drills in the garage, putting inside), and in the evening getting to the range 2 x wk, and playing 2 x wk. At what point do I sart to enter mini tour events such as the Hooters Tour or Minor Leage Golf Tour? Do I try Monday Qualifers for the Nationwide Tour?
Answer
Jeff,
I would suggest that you attend a Hooter's Tour event or a Nationwide event as a spectator. You'll be watching players that practicing and playing is all that they do. Compare your game to theirs realistically. If you think you can compete, enter as many events as possible. These events may be at your club which you need to dominate. If you can start shooting in the sixties consistently, against good competition then consider a Monday qualifier.
The odds are against you because of the limited time you have to practice and play. If you have the desire and are thick skinned, I say go for it and enjoy the ride. You never know what may happen..........
Keep me posted.
