Colors of Tee box vs Handicaps
Question
Last evening after a golf round we were talking about that the man can tee off from "white" or "yellow" tees...but nobody could tell exactly how to define who is supposed to play from white or yellow tees. Most of the players believe that the handicap defines from which tee you should be playing. Of course we have the same dilemma situation with the women tees (blue of red).
So I have the following questions:
1. Is there any "official" recognized handicap cut which establish from which tee color you should be playing?
2. If the above answer is yes, then please could you let us know which are the handicap cuts for each color tee for men and women.
Thanks very very much in advance for you answer.
Regards, Yulia
Answer
Yulia,
There are generally no defined tee box colors for each person with different handicaps. Handicaps will equal out the playing surface when players of the same gender play the same tee box. There are different tee boxes on courses so players can play the tee box that is most suitable to their games. The same holds true for men and women.
Some courses have standards as to which tees are recommended because of the handicaps. Consult the course that you play to see if there are recommendations.
Hope this helps.
