Course scoring records
Question
I just had a dream weekend and shot a 64 in a tournament at my local course. We played from the white tees. This was the lowest score ever for the course. I was told that course records can only be shot from the championship tees. What is your position on this? Thanks, Carl
Answer
Carl,
Congratulations on a great score!
Although I am not an official, I see course scoring records are determined from the "tips" unless the course itself wants to keep individual scoring recording from the different tees. That in its self can be a tedious task. When that happens you can call into question "where" on the different colored tees, which can result in many more categories.
What I know of course design (which is just enough to be dangerous) the "course" score is determined from the back of the tees. The colored tees are to help golfers of various handicaps get around the track in about the same score or time and still enjoy the game.
Thanks
Jim
