Hook up hill
Question
Hi,
I have hcp 7,4 so I play actually quite good.
There is one situation on the course which gives me the problems. When ball is up hill on the fairway (even slightly and I mean up hill not above the feets level) I have tendency to hit hook not the straight ball. Of course I try to aim more right to compensate it, but I think it is not good way.
In my opinion it is because I can not turn my hips during the swing by what to do, how to hit the ball straight ?
Thanks
Chris
Answer
Chris,
Hitting the ball left is typical from an uphill lie. It's because of your hips being restrcted as you suggest and your upper body outraces the lower body to the impact position.
If you want to hit the ball straight you'll have to block the shot by not releasing your hands. The easiest way to play this shot is to aim right and take your normal swing expecting the ball to go left. Remember to take one or two more clubs because the ball will travel higher and shorter.
Thank you,
Michael
