Hitting wrong Ball - Medal/Stroke Play
Question
I understand that hitting the wrong ball earns you a two stroke penalty but I am not clear whether the incorrect stroke counts as well. For example if a player hits the wrong ball on their second shot on a par four and realizes it before hitting it again. Then plays his original ball on to the green and one puts. In summary he hit the proper ball twice plus a one put and also hit the wrong ball once. What is his score for this hole? Is it 3 plus a 2 stroke penalty totaling a 5 OR is it 3 plus 1 for the stoke with the wrong ball plus 2 for the penalty totaling a 6?
Answer
Hello Ang: He is penalized 2 shots for hitting the wrong ball and his score is 5. Any strokes made with the wrong ball do not count. If he fails to correct his mistake before playing from the next teeing ground or if it's his last hole and before leaving the putting green, fails to announce his intention of correcting his mistake, he is disqualified.
