Swing Mechanics
Question
Hello, I have a question relating to the mechanics of my swing. I am currently a 3.1 handicap and I am playing college golf. I am attending a school seven hours away from home so I have limited access to my instructor. I would like to inquire about laying the club off. In my swing, I am taking the club as strait back as I can however I am fighting the habit, at the beginning of my downswing, to drop my hands 2-3 inches causing me to play a slight draw. I am not a perfectionist, however I have a very hard time playing anything other than a strait ball flight. I will tell you I have been struggling with this for some time and I would appreciate your input. If there is a way to upload a video, please instruct me on how to do so. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hello and thank you for asking. I guess your pro doesnt help from remote locations? We are actually in the middle of building a web site for that exact purpose, so in fact it may help you and your coach in the future. I will keep you updated.
One thing that is not clear is that you state u are dropping your hands and causing a draw, yet you say you have trouble playing anything but a draw? Or are you simply stating that you would like to play a fade when you need to?
If that is true, you do not need to change your path or swing AT ALL to hit a fade. That is a common myth and a lot of pros teach you to open your stance by pulling the right foot back or forward, to not release as much, etc.... that is not the simplest and most foolproof way to hit a fade. If you have a solid swing, feel good with it, and you can hit straight balls almost at will, you should really have no trouble hitting fades at will.
