Becoming a professional tour player
Question
I am 23 and just recently started playing golf. I developed a strong passion for the game and as I continue to read instruction books and watch instruction videos I have improved my game by 15 to 20 strokes in 2 years. I understand that I still have far ways to go but I want to know what exactly do I need to do to become a professional golfer. I have no doubt that I cant do it but I need to know how to do it. I was considering going to a 2 year golf academy. Is this a waste of my time and money? so if you could please explain to me step by step how to become a pro and how it works. I cant find anything online or anywhere that is specific on exactly what I need to do. thank you.
Answer
Justin,
I think your determination is admirable. I also think that anything is possible. The first suggestion is to get a PGA pro as your instructor. Allow him/her to evaluate your game. You and he/she will set goals for you for the next 6 months, a year and two years. You'll also set up a schedule that will determine when (and what) you practice and play. You then need to enter some stroke play events to see how you do in a competitive situation.
I have never heard of a two year gold academy so I really cannot comment on that. I would assume that it would be very expensive. Give me the name of the academy so I can do some research.
Good luck and keep me updated on your progress.
