club knockout doubles ruling
Question
Its our yearly club doubles knock out comp, Me and my partner managed to get through to the next round. One of the two guys we are to play in the next round has injured his hand and is unable to play. His partner has informed us he has a replacement for him. Is this allowed? I just found out today his replacement is one of the guys we knocked out in the first round. Is this allowed?
updateI just spoken to one of the committee members who organise our club comp this morning. The club rule is that they are allowed a replacement because they recieved a bye in the first round. They are also allowed a replacement of someone who has already played, irrispectave of whether he had previously been beaten by us. As long as they have not played together in this comp. I must admit i am not happy with this rule. I have decided to inform my partner that i will be withdrawing from this comp.
Could you please offer your opinion, Thankyou
Answer
John,
I think your response is natural however the rules seem to be in place to cover the situation you described. If it were me, I'd continue to play in the competition. It shouldn't matter who you play. Play hard and move up to the next round.
Thank you,
Michael
