Help!
Question
I just recently started going to the range again after a few weeks of break over the winter. The thing is, my skin is starting to peel from my middle finger on the right hand and the back of my thumb near the fingernail on my left. It is really annoying because it's starting to hurt as well as bleed. Any idea what is causing this? Thanks!
Answer
Hi Jeff:
Could be several things, but usually it's grip pressure is too tight. Friction causes that, so if your grip (hands) is slipping or somehow twisting on the handle of the club during the swing, that would start the process. Once the club hits the turf, there could be more twisting or moving of the handle. If your grips themselves are slick and old, you would tend to hold on too tight, which adds fuel to the fire. But for now, tape up those fingers (like Tiger does), or put a bandaid on the one that is bleeding, make sure you have new grips on your clubs so there is no slipping, and worse case scenario, have a PGA Pro look at your grip to make sure your hands are placed on the club correctly to allow the swinging motion to happen with no issues to your skin.
