Just getting started
Question
I have only played 3 times so far and only once was 18 holes. But I am hooked on this game and don抰 normally get that way about anything. Since I am so new to this there is a great deal that I don抰 know about golf. I抦 sure there are a million things that I do wrong with just one swing of the club. I played 18 holes on a local course that had a par of 71 but I shot a 100. I feel that I have a passion for this game and would love to start towards a profession in golf. I know that my game will have to improve greatly before I can do that but I don抰 feel that my passion or (eventual skill level) will be what hinders me. Having a wife and three children, I am worried that money may be all that stands between me and pro golf. I am only able to afford to play once or twice a month but I have found that golf is all I can think about lately and I even started watching golf on TV which is something I thought I would never do. Basically, all this aimless typing comes to one question. If the skill and passion for the game are there, does $$$ usually get in the way?
Answer
Hello Danny:
Thanks for asking the question. I never had such a challenging and career-deciding question like this. Being a Pro in Golf is not easy, but not impossible.
As you ended the words, if you have SKILL (consistent) and passion, I think there sure will be a lot of wealth opportunity here. Since you have just started, you need really speed up your level of skill and game. And you have a family support responsibility. Now, golf is not just fun or hobby. It it your job with passion and long-dream vocation.
I want you to speak to your local club pros (normally they are members of PGA and a certified instructor). Ask them what the fastest path will be for you.
If you can play a 18 hole with low 70's in next 6 month, I think you can do it. You can compete at your State level tournament, and you can move up to like playing Nationwide tour, and eventually playing in PGA-tour. I am sure you can find a lot of books, but please check with local pro.
You shot 100 at the first 18 hole course, and I think that is really an impressive performance.
Please plan your time-line, and pursuit it. Also, if you can come up a group who can support or sponsor you at the beginning, that would be great!
I hope you will find a way and want you to achieve your dream!!
Thanks.
Dan
