beginner clubs
Question
I am wanting to get into golf and do not know very much about clubs and am looking for a complete set to start off with but when i go to the stores and talk to their people they only worry about selling the most expensive clubs I need some advice on what I should look for in the flex of a club and the head degree to help me learn to play because I have not swung a club in 3-4 years
Answer
Hi Kyle:
If possible, ask to be professionally fitted for new clubs. Most manufacturers and golf stores offer clubfitting as a free service if you purchase the clubs from them. But NO ONE can force you to buy the clubs from them, so make sure you take advantage of that service. That is how you'll find out what shaft is right for you (most important piece of equation), what lie angle is right for you, what grip size is right for you, etc. If a store does not offer that service for free, go find one who does. As a beginner, you do not need a complete set of clubs, however, there is nothing wrong with getting a full set. You'll need a Driver, a 4 or 5 wood, a hybrid club or two, a 5 iron through sand wedge and a putter. You'll want irons that are perimeter weighted (most are now) to help you get ball airborn easier. Shafts are according to swing speed, that is why you'll need to get fitted. In reference to price, you don't need top of the line clubs just yet, there are several models you can choose from that would be about half the price. Don't buy clubs off ebay or craigslist, you need to get fit. Good luck.
