distance
Question
i hit my driver fairly long(260-280yds)but am short with irons (5iron 145yds lob wedge 45 yds),please explain why and how to improve. thanks
Answer
Hello and thank you for asking. Without seeing your swing and your total ability, the only thing I can say with some certainty is your movement of the clubhead towards the ball at impact. You most likely have an ascending motion to the ball, which is ideal for distance and spin rate o a drive. However on irons, you always need a descending blow, which created the necessary spin, contact and flight for maximum distance. Unless you skull it really hard, you need to get the ball in the air, and that is produced with the loft of the clubface and with the high spin rate. So on the driver, you need low spin and ascending blow, and on irons, you need high spin rate on a descending blow. If you rarely take good divots on your irons, this point has been 100% proved.
