Holding the putting below the handle
Question
During a put, Can a golfer grip his putter below the rubber handle and on the metal shaft of the putter? I have a lot more accuracy, esp from 5-10 ft, when I hold the putter with one hand midway down the shaft.
Answer
Hello and thank you for asking. A golfer can hold any club any way he wants, there are no rules about that, as long as you provide a SWINGING motion to hit the ball. I.e., you cannot use a billiard type shot to sink a putt from the ground, that would be illegal. You may want to get as shorter putter or cut down your current one. Many players even on tour prefer shorter putters, as do I, and Dave Pelz, and the reason it that promotes more of a true physiological pendulum motion than standing more upright.
