If it fits it hits part (lost track)
Question
Picked up a set of Titleist DCI 981 irons yesterday for a steal. The standard lie angles actually agree with what I dialed in on a set of Lynx Black Cats (which I could hit well but with not so great distance).
I've been using a lofted hybrid since about 2006 because my 6 iron and 7 iron would come and go. Other than my shankitis bout of 2008, very consistent with the 8-XW.
I pulled out the 5 iron (which I have had an inability to hit since 2006) first time and probably launched one of the best shots ever (practicing). I even woke up this morning with no warmup and hit several 6 iron shots nicely.
So my setup now is 1-3-7 woods, 5H 6-9, PW, GW, 54-11 (bent to 55), 60-07, 64-07 (Vokeys on the SW, LW, XW). Don't know if I mentioned that I acquired an Odyssey White Hot 7H putter and had it fit (35" and 2 deg upright) - my putting within 10 feet has improved considerably.
It feels nice to use player irons again. Still gotta stick with the 5H - that way I can keep a 3 wood in the bag.
Answer
Lou, I thought I'd responded to this missive but something prevented it from making it through to AllExperts. Can't fault you for going to the player irons, most people who's ability reaches a certain level gravitate to the more conventional design.
Keep me posted.
