Hitting hooks
Question
I am hitting hooks, going to the left. I am pretty sure my set up is correct. I try to release the tension on my left hand and then release both hands before swinging. With all of this, I still hit the #2, #3 and #4 hybrids with a left hook. If I set up a little to the right, then it goes a little more straight. I have been told that I am taking the club straight back.
Any idea as to what I might be doing wrong? I know it is hard to diagnose this without seeing me, but this is the best I can do. Thanks and have both a blessed day and a blessed week.
Answer
Hello Tom:
Thanks for asking this question.
It may be a little hard to give you any recommendation without seeing you hitting the ball.
But, I'd like to address some of basics here.
First, please make sure that the blade at the time of contacting the ball should be square.
Secondly, I assume your posture at the time of addressing is straight to the target. Your grip is reasonably correct - not to strong or not to weak. Then, please make sure that your swing plane is correct. Swing plane is, I think, one of the most important components of great ball striking. Your swing plane should not be bent toward inside after the hitting, or crooked toward outside of correct swing plane. I really want you to have a solid grasp of the swing plane concept. You can think of swing-plane like a CD (computer disk) that surrounds your chest/body around. Your arm and hand are supposed to naturally glide along the swing plane.
Then lastly, I want you spend a little more research time on the swing plane - single swing plane vs two swing planes. Most of golfer including pros are doing with two swing plane. However, I lately studied more on one swing plane, and I adopted it to my without problem, and I am hitting the ball more accurately and simpler.
Thanks, and I hope you will have improvement, and enjoy your better golf.
Thanks.
