Hitting the ball thin

Question
Thanks so much for this opporunity.

I have recently enjoyed some success by dropping my right shoulder in the downswing, rather than the right shoulder
going out and then over the top.

However, I am also wondering if I am hitting occasional shots
thin (wasn't doing this before) because with the right shoulder dropping, the left shoulder is lifting?  If so, what would you suggest as a way of getting the benefit of a dropped right shoulder (and lifted left shoulder) without hitting the ball thin?

Thank you.

Answer
Hal,

Great question. I'm glad that you're no longer coming over the top. That is a very good fix.

It sounds as though in your attempt to drop the right should into position, you're leaving the weight on the back foot. This will cause the club to ascend in the impact position causing you to hit up on the ball. Thin shots.

Be sure to shift your weight to the front foot before you swing the club downward. This will allow you to hit the ball on a descending blow. You will have better control on the golf ball and eliminate the thin shot.

Good luck and let me know when this helps.

Thanks,
