Practice Schedule for summer
Question
Hello,
My name is Caleb and I am 17 years old. I have played golf for 3 years and absolutely love it. When I first started I was told by many people that I had a natural golf swing, but I needed someone to help me harness that. I struggled on my own for about two years and finally started taking lessons last summer with a PGA Pro at a golf course called Troy Burne in Hudson WI. My tenth grade average per 18 holes was 108, this year my average is 82, but I have shot rounds as low as 70.
So, here is my question, how should I be practicing this summer so that I improve? Obviously, short game is huge. But, I seem to struggle off the tee at times. I work at a golf course in MN called Stone Ridge, it has fast greens and is pretty high quality, so I can golf there as much as I want. I basically have all summer to practice golf.
I want a schedule that will push me and make me a better golfer. In every tournament I always believe that I can win, although my best finish so far is ninth place.
I would love any advice you can give me. I want to be pushed. I love this game, but I want to compete at a higher level. I know I have the ability. I just need the guidance.
Thank you so much for your time!
Caleb
Answer
Caleb,
I am so glad you love the game of golf. It is a game for a lifetime. You have made a tremendous amount of improvement in a short time utilizing your PGA Pro's advice. He/she should be the one to give you a practice/playing schedule. Just a note, I would suggest that you spend at least 60% of your practice time on your short game. (Putting, chipping, pitching and bunker play)
I would advise that you play in as many tournaments as possible. Also play with golfers that are better than you so you can be pressed and learn.
Good luck to you.
