Question
Eddie, I was a scratch player when I was 13 and my dad told me I had to make a decision either baseball or golf because my baseball swing messed up my golf swing and my golf swing was messed up my baseball swing. I choose baseball and became a 3time All-American mainly because I could hit. I am now 35 and a 22 handicap with flashes of my former self. I drive the ball 300-325 yds and have been keeping them straight after much practice. My short game is struggling. I have access to the range and local course unlimited during Monday through Friday and have about 4-5 hours each morning to devote to getting better. I am realistic and do not believe I am going to go pro. I just want to get better. My goal is to become a 5-10 handicap. I know that I can do this but need help with some guidance on practicing. My ball flight is a draw now after getting my baseball swing out. What do you think?
Answer
Hi Lance:
Sorry for delay. Love your story. You know what it takes to achieve a high level of success in sports. In golf, it's 10x harder. It's just you against the course. Love the fact you hit it deep and straight, however, in order for you to improve to a 5-10 from a 22, you need some serious work on your short game...as you admit, not your swing.
Send me your personal email address and I'll send you my short game practice sheets. These will give you a blueprint and a structure to your practice. Plus, keeping track of your practice sessions gives you measureable, real results.
Thanks,
