Manatees are found in shallow, slow-moving rivers, estuaries, canals, and coastal waters. They inhabit warm temperate and tropical regions such as the southeastern United States, Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean Sea. Manatees are not typically found in open ocean waters, but they may occasionally venture into coastal salt water areas.
