Why does freshwater freeze faster than saltwater?

Freshwater does not freeze faster than saltwater. In fact, saltwater freezes at a lower temperature than freshwater. The freezing point of freshwater is 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius), while the freezing point of saltwater is 28 degrees Fahrenheit (-2 degrees Celsius). This is because the salt in saltwater lowers the freezing point of water.
