Weights
Question
Hello. Do you know of any exercises I can do with weights to help my body to prepare to go deep-sea fishing? Thanks.
Answer
Hi Kevin;
Though the general thought might be to do exercises to build up your arms and shoulders, your legs and lower back are probably even more important when fighing a big fish on a rocking boat. Whether you are sitting in a fighting chair and pumping the rod or doing "stand up fishing", your legs are used much more than most people realize. I really cannot give you any specific exercises to do since overall general good health and being in good shape are what matters most. Fighting a big fish on heavy tackle for an extended period of time is a real workout, and you are using every part of your body at one time or another. The best advice I can give is to do whatever you generally do to keep in shape, and be prepaired to do whatever it takes to beat that fish without overextending yourself and causing any physical harm. I assure you that the following morning after landing a large billfish or tuna, your body will ache. But it is that good type of soreness that comes after winning that important football game or finishing the marathon.
