monster ledge/ mudhole tuna and shark
Question
hi, all i keep my 30 foot well craft in seabright and i am planning on making a run out to the ledge to get some tuna or shark this weekend. any one got any advice or tips on where to go. i went out in the middle of July to the mudhole and got a 110lb mako. then in the middel of august again to the same place. no action. im guessing it was because the water was 15 degrees warmer. but now the water cooled off so im gana give it another try.
Any advice?
thanks james
Answer
Hi James;
The mud hole area used to be a really good spot for tuna this time of year a long time ago. I have not gotten to that area in the last few years, mainly because the fishing has not been what it used to be. Tuna was the main attraction. For the most part, shark fishing in that area was pretty much over by the middle of October.
My suggestion is to try and contact a couple of local bait and tackle shops in your area and see what they can tell you about the possibilities in those areas. I am out of the south shore of LI and lots of boats from my area fish there. Tackle shops in Sheepshead Bay, Island Park, Freeport, and Babylon all have customers who would fish there, so if you cannot get reliable information from your immediate area, you may want to try calling some of the south shore LI shops.
I hope this is of some help.
