Best time of day to fish
Question
I've been fishing and crabbing for a while. I live in Savannah. I was wondering what the best time of day to fish is because sometimes I have luck and often I don't. Should I fish with the tides? Is high tide the best time to fish?
Thanks
Answer
Jeremy-
Time of day really does not matter in comparison to to the tide stage and overall height.
Since you're inshore fishing, you will want to stay away from fishing near New and Full Moon stages (check a tide chart for these times) when the tide overall heights climb over 8 ft. The tide simply runs too hard during these times to do just about any fishing at all.
The water also gets extremely murky and you'll notice lots of flotsam in the sounds and rivers that is pulled out of the marsh due to the higher tide levels. The overly-murky water is most times your hint that the fishing may not be all that good. We have naturally murky water here in GA, but there are times the water is not as murky others and I am sure you have noticed that over the short time you have been fishing.
If you're staying away from this scenario, we look for the following tide stages for the best fishing.
2-3 hours before low water and then, the first 2 hours of the flood tide. This has always been the most all around productive tides for a wide variety of species, although it gets more in depth and other tides are favored for very specific fish targets.
Overall, look for the above tides, and do not worry about time of day. Salt Water is current driven so me must cater to the tides.
Hope this helps... Have a great day and thanks for visiting allexperts.com.
