Pier Fishing Rod & Reel
Question
QUESTION: I live in Huntington Beach, California. I am also walking distance from the pier. I would like to do some pier fishing. At stores such as Traget and Walmart, I see literally hundards of rods and maybe 75 reels. I have no idea where to begin.
The bottom line is, what rod and real should I get for simple pier fishing? I dount it would be used for much else.
ANSWER: Hi John,
the best rod and reel for you is a medium action saltwater rod and reel. (or a heavy freshwater rod and reel)
these are rods that have a capacity of 15-20LB line. Match that with a reel that has a capacity of around 300yards of 15-20lb line. This setup would be a good all arounder for saltwater fishing off the piers, and should be able to handle some nice fish.
as you progress, you will find your preference and would be able to choose rods and reels according to your angling style.
Thanks for asking,

QUESTION: I don't know if you would be allowed to, but to simply cut to the chase, can you just give a brand name and model number of both a rod and reel that would fit the situation? That way, I can simply go out and buy it, without having to search all over for the before-mentioned criteria.
Answer
hi John,
Honestly, this depends on your budget.
Shimano, Penn and Daiwa are very good brands. However, they all have high price tags on them.
Personally, I almost always stick to these three brands.
Thanks for asking, and if you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask.
