Unique Tackle Made In Occupied Japan, Possibly Ivory
Question
Hi! Thanks for taking the time to check my question. I've run into some antique tackle and I'm looking for some feedback.
Today my father and I were moving some wood around the garage and he came across some older fishing lures that he brought back from his father's place in California. They look like they might be made from ivory and one has a faded 'Made In Occupied Japan' written on the belly of the lure. Another lure which may also be ivory was produced by National Brand which may or may not have been connected with Matsushita/Panasonic.
Have you ever encountered anything of the kind? Being a Japanese history buff I get interested in this sort of stuff and though we plan on keeping them, could they be worth anything? Or is there anyone you'd recommend that I could redirect my inquiries regarding the history behind this fishing tackle?
Thanks in advance!
Answer
Hi Jake,
Those are most likely whale Bone Jigs, in the old days, they used to use it for tuna. There are some plastic models still in use today.

This guy sells them for around $100 each, I don't exactly know how much they cost.
Would be worth while looking around for some lure collectors as there are a lot out there.
I hope this helps.
thanks for asking,
