basic salt water tackle kit
Question
Kit, i asked for your advise on a basic salt water fishing kit for fishing off bridges, on 06/25/2009, but you needed what type rod, reel and line i have!
So here's the answer. i hope this will help answer the original question.
I have a Penn Captiva cv28000 9 bearing system gear ratio 4.1:1 and a cv2102h 10 foot rod, 20 lb test line-2 to 5 oz lure weight.
I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks Robert
Answer
Looks like you are set up for some heavy fishing there Rob.
Spool your reel with some 15lb test line, get some 2-4oz egg sinkers and bank sinkers (or pyramid sinkers) size 1, 3,1/0 and 2/0 hooks (a box/pack of each). A box/pack of size 10 or 7 swivels and a spool of 40 or 50lb mono line for leaders. - this sets you up for baitfishing.
For lures, get some casting jigs or casting spoons like the Krocodile and or Kastmaster, in 2-3oz sizes. lead head buckltail jigs. in the same size range, some poppers in 2-2.5 oz weights. and you're all set up!
how much to get, largely depends on how deep your pockets are, and i can tell you by experience that you just cant have one!!! (mostly coz we are attracted to shiney objects with hooks, and they look great if theres a few of them in different colors in our tackle box!) oh, dont forget to buy a good sized tackle box to fit everything in.
extras would be a pair of pliers, a diamond hone stone, like an EZ lap, (for hooks). a small utility knife, a small flashlight, rubber bands (to hold things together, and trust me on this, you will find some use for them!!!) and a bottle of super glue. (get the one with a brush applicator, and you store this in a small ziplock bag!)
