Flying fish can vary in size, depending on the species. Some species, such as the California flying fish (Cypselurus californicus), are relatively small, reaching a maximum length of around 12 inches (30 centimeters). Other species, such as the Atlantic flying fish (Exocoetus volitans), can grow much larger, reaching lengths of up to 18 inches (45 centimeters). The world's largest flying fish species is the Pacific saury (Cololabis saira), which can reach lengths of up to 24 inches (60 centimeters).
