Fly fishing follow up question
Question
Gary,
Another question. If there appears to be nothing hatching is it even worth fishing? Should i just try a variety of flys and do my best to present them well or should i pack it in or wait for a hatch?
Thanks in advance.
Answer
Tough question Patrick, there are so many factors to consider (water temp, flow, weather, fly, your confidence, etc...).
Your best success will always be during the hatch (sorry to state the obvious!) but I have sometimes found success by be diligent - meaning frequent and many fly changes, leader changes, and experimenting with different depths (surface, sub-surface, deep).
Really when it comes down to it, I have always felt that your confidence plays a big role in how successful you are.
Good Luck!
