fly fishing for bluegill
Question
Hi. I live in southeast nebraska and have recently decided to take up fly fishing. Since there aren't any trout streams or lakes within 50 miles of where I live I thought I could hone my skills fishing for bluegill. Do you know any flies that might work well for bluegills in my area or know anything that might help my cause? Thanks.
Answer
Great idea Mark, there are a number of flies that will work for bluegill - The most popular are poppers, dries (such as hopper patterns, mosquito, and gnats), ants, and beadhead nypmphs.
Also, be sure to watch what kind of bugs are in the area you're fishing so you can match the pattern to what the fish are feeding on.
Hope that helps,
Gary
